Monte Alban Sunrise Run: A Journey Through Oaxaca’s Heritage

The Monte Alban Sunrise Run is more than just a trail run; it’s a journey through the heart of Oaxaca’s cultural heritage, blending athletic endeavor with a profound sense of history and community. This experience, organized by Oax Sport, is a unique blend of physical challenge and cultural immersion.

A Night Journey Begins:

Our run started in the pre-dawn darkness of Xoxocotlan. The streets, silent and serene, were adorned with vibrant murals celebrating the Day of the Dead, setting a backdrop of rich cultural history for our journey.

Luis Fabian: A Guide with Ancestral Ties:

Leading us was Luis Fabian, a native of Sierra Norte and an expert guide. Luis shared his deep connection with the land, “These paths are not just trails to me; they are a link to my Zapotec ancestors. Guiding runners here is like sharing a piece of my soul.” His words added a profound depth to our run.

Ascent to Monte Alban: A Glimpse into History:

The climb to Monte Alban was challenging yet invigorating. As we ascended, the first rays of sunlight broke the horizon, illuminating the ancient pyramids and ruins. This moment of natural beauty was breathtaking, a perfect harmony of nature and history.

Cultural Exchange Amongst the Ruins:

At the summit, our group, including Anaya and Ollie Bishop from England, and Charlie from Georgia, USA, exchanged stories and experiences. Ollie expressed his awe, “Running up to these ancient ruins at sunrise was magical. It’s an experience that connects you deeply with history.”

The Descent: A Bonding Experience:

Our journey back was filled with shared reflections on the run, the beauty we had witnessed, and the connections we had formed. The descent was not just a physical journey but a symbol of the camaraderie developed amongst us.

Beyond the Physical: A Social Impact:

This event was a testament to the mission of Oax Sport Inc. and Oax Sport AC – to support and empower local athletes and foster global connections. The run was an embodiment of our commitment to bringing people together through the love of sport and culture.

Conclusion:

The Monte Alban Sunrise Run is an embodiment of what Oax Sport stands for – connecting athletes globally, while celebrating local history and culture. As Luis Fabian poignantly put it, “Every step here resonates with the footsteps of those who walked before us. We run not just for ourselves but as a tribute to the rich tapestry of humanity that binds us all.”

We at Oax Sport invite you to join us on our next adventure, where running is not just a sport but a journey through the annals of history and a celebration of shared human spirit.

Oax Sport continues to create experiences that go beyond the run, encapsulating the spirit of community, culture, and shared humanity. Stay tuned for more events that promise not just a run, but a journey into the heart of Oaxaca.
