Let’s spend a day in the Sierra Norte of Oaxaca. In Capulalpam de Méndez, a federally designated Magic Town. Luis Fabian invites us to visit his village and get to know his beautiful countryside.

Capulálpam de Méndez (Spanish: [kalpuˈlalpam de ˈmendes] is a town and municipality in the Sierra Juárez in Oaxaca in south-western Mexico. It is part of the Ixtlán District in the Sierra Norte de Oaxaca region. The name “Capulálpam” in Nahuatl means “land of the chokecherry tree,” a common type of tree in the area.

Schedule:
6:30 am Leave Oaxaca City
8:30 Arrive in Capulalpam
8:30 Brunch
9:30-11:30: Hiking, Running
11:30-1:30: Rest, stretch, snack
2:30 pm Lunch
4:30 Visit the town center to see old churches
5:30 Leave for Oaxaca City
7:30 pm Arrive in Oaxaca City

This experience will give you a full day with a local athlete and his family in the mountains of Sierra Sur. It’s aimed at persons interested in mountains, hiking, trail running. The experience includes a total of 4 hours of driving in a personal car.

This experience will help Luis fundraise for his athletic competitions.

About Capulalpam:
In February 2008, Capulalpam was officially designated a “Pueblo Magico” (magical town), Oaxaca’s first and Mexico’s 33rd such town. The government also announced plans to construct a traditional healing center. The new designation and the healing center were expected to boost tourism. Opened in 2010, the center employs traditional healers, who provide medicinal plant therapy, massages, temazcal and herbal baths.
