Oax Sport’s Victory at Pescado de Moctezuma Relay Race

Celebrating Victory at the Pescado de Moctezuma Ultra Relay Race

Oax Sport Management, proudly representing Oaxaca and sponsored by World Travel Agency, has achieved a remarkable victory in the first edition of the Pescado de Moctezuma ultra relay race. This historic event not only showcased the athletes’ extraordinary talent but also highlighted the cultural and natural beauty of Mexico.

The Pescado de Moctezuma: A Journey Through History

This ultra-distance relay race was organized by the Federal Government with participation from six states and 180 municipalities. The competition aimed to recreate an ancient pre-Hispanic route used to transport fresh fish from the Gulf Coast to the central highlands of Mexico.

The race began in Tecolutla, Veracruz, and concluded in Teotihuacán, State of Mexico. Along the 277 km route, participants traversed five “Pueblos Mágicos” (Papantla, Cuetzalan, Tlaxco, San Juan Teotihuacán, and San Martín Teotihuacán) and passed iconic archaeological sites such as El Tajín and Teotihuacán.

A Challenging Course Across Diverse Landscapes

Athletes faced a variety of terrains, including beaches, asphalt roads, mountain paths, and trails, while navigating through five distinct ecosystems. The race started at dawn on March 6 and ended the following morning. Despite freezing nighttime temperatures, the local communities kept the festivities alive, warmly welcoming athletes and spectators alike.

A Celebration of Mexican Traditions

The event, organized by Altius Events, brought together state and municipal governments, local communities, and individual volunteers. Their efforts ensured that participants experienced not only a competitive event but also a deep connection to Mexico’s rich cultural heritage.

With 1,350 runners forming 100 teams of six or twelve members, the competition became a massive celebration of athleticism and cultural pride. Participants hailed from across Mexico and countries like Canada, the USA, Argentina, Spain, Germany, and Saudi Arabia, making it a truly international event.

Oax Sport’s Historic Victory

Among the many talented teams, Oax Sport Management stood out by securing first place in the men’s six-member team category. Team members Fahad Hizam alHarbi, Eddi Pérez Silva, Felipe Arellanes Ruiz, Rosalino Meneses López, Pablo Salazar Alavez, and Roque Luis García delivered an exceptional performance, supported by driver Daniel Alvarado Hernández.

The top three results in their category were:

  • 1st Place: Oax Sport Management (Oaxaca)
  • 2nd Place: Pescau Zarandeau (Portugal)
  • 3rd Place: Rarámuris (Chihuahua)
