Digital Storytelling

A youth media lab. Athletes from underserved communities learn video, writing and safe online skills, and share their own stories on their own terms.

Program

What the program does

Youth in rural and Indigenous communities are often excluded from digital spaces. This program opens doors with training, tools and mentorship.

Participants create and publish their own stories safely and with confidence, and take the skills into school and work.

Why it matters

Every contribution helps close the digital divide in Oaxaca. The skills outlast the workshop: they are used in school, in work, and in how a young athlete represents their own community.

What the program covers

  • Digital skills training: smartphone video, editing, interviews, blogging and public speaking
  • Media kits: tripods, lights, microphones and editing tools
  • Safe publishing: captioning, translation and guidance on responsible online engagement
  • Mentorship: volunteer media professionals coaching through drafts and publishing

Goals to 2028

  • Train 20 young people in digital storytelling and media safety
  • Publish at least 50 athlete-created videos or posts each year
