The athletes supported by Oax Sport returned from the competitions with outstanding positions and two first places
Athletes supported by Oax Sport had an impressive performance last April 2nd in the ‘Ultra Trail Desierto de Los Leones’ in Mexico City. The seven Oaxacan runners took part in different distances of this large and national trail running competition.
Leading the group was Juana Cruz, which competed in the 50k ultra distance and came first. With her win, she receives an entry in the Ultra Trail Mont Blanc Mexico (UTMB), that will take place next October in Puerto Vallarta.
In the 9k short trail run, Juan Victoria came first overall, followed by Felipe Arellanes in 3rd place. Luis Fabian came 6th overall. It was the first national trail race for these young athletes, which they dominated very well. They are eager to take part in more short distance trail competitions.
Luis Alberto Santiago managed another top 10 finish in a national race and came 7th in the 9k distance. His team mate Roque Luis in the 21k also had a dominant race and a top 10 finish.
In the 50k ultra run, the experienced Ruben Toledo had a great participation to prepare for his debut in the Spanish Canfranc-Canfranc 100k this coming September in the Aragón Valley of north-eastern Spain.

Some athletes supported by Oax Sport received financing covering the race fees and personalized apparel. Oax Sport paid around 10,500 MXN (≈$525 USD) for their participation.
The athletes who competed in the Desierto de los Leones were:
From Team Oax Sport:
- Juana Cruz Garcia in the 50k distance. She is from San Juan Quiahije, Juquila District, Costa Region.
- Felipe Arellanes Ruiz in the 9k distance. He is from Santa Catarina Cuixtla, Miahuatlán District, Sierra Sur Region.
From Team Atlethós:
- Luis Fabian Santiago in the 9k distance. He is from San Pablo Yaganiza, Villa Alta District, Sierra Norte Region.
- Juan Zurita Victoria in the 9k distance. He is from Magdalena Apasco, Etla District, Valles Centrales Region.
From Team Bekw yâs:
- Roque Luis Garcia in the 21k distance.
- Luis Alberto Santiago in the 9k distance.
Both are from the Zapotec indigenous community of San Pablo Güilá, Tlacolula District, Valles Centrales Region.
From Team Carroñeros SAE:
- Ruben Toledo Rosado in the 50k distance. He is from El Espinal, Juchitán District, Istmo de Tehuantepec Region.

Supporting athletes to go to national competitions is a great way to gain experience and learn from the best in the field. Each participation of the runners promotes their abilities in organization, support, and mental strength. We commit to support athletes to go to national and international sporting events.
