The international trail race will take place on the coming weekend of October 27-30 in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco. The event will bring together the best trail running athletes from the Americas.

The Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB®) is a single-stage mountain ultramarathon, first held in 2003, that follows the route of the Tour du Mont Blanc. Since UTMB® Group’s partnership with IRONMAN Group in 2021, UTMB® World Series has formally launched in Year 2022, and Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc will be renamed as UTMB® World Series Finals from Year 2023 Edition, as the annual final competition of this series.

Juana Cruz Garcia is a young ultra running athlete from the Chatinos indigenous community of San Juan Quiahije, Juquila District, from Costa Region in Oaxaca state in south-western Mexico.

“I feel very grateful to Oax Sport for the opportunity it gave me from the beginning, from the moment it sponsored my registration for the Ultra Desierto de los Leones, as you know, I got first place in the 50k distance, and with this I won my pass to compete in the UTMB in Puerto Vallarta at the end of October. Participating in this type of competition is very important to me. I am looking forward to what will happen, since I will run alongside more experienced athletes, this will allow me to measure my level and improve what I need. It will be a new place and a different climate than what I am used to running. I want to arrive in excellent condition for this competition, therefore, I am training to achieve it. Representing my state and my region fills me with emotion, which is why I strive to give my best.” Juana Cruz García, Athlete from San Juan Quiahije, Juquila.

The race will immerse athletes in the roots of the ancient Mexican Wixárika heritage through unique trails within the forest, agave fields, and the jungle reaching the beach of Puerto Vallarta. It promises to be the leading ultra running race of Mexico.

Oax Sport supported Juana in her participation in the ‘Desierto de los Leones’ where she won her entry in the UTMB® Mexico by winning the 50k distance. Oax Sport will continue to support her in the trip to Puerto Vallarta. We are happy to share that her trip arrangement is all confirmed and paid for, which include flights, local transportation, and accommodation. Still, public support is needed to cover supplements, food, and the sport gear she needs to do her best performance and feel the acceptance and support of the community.

“Oax Sport’s directors feel a special pleasure because this is the first time, we have the opportunity to support a young woman to go to a high-profile competition. The reason for this because we find a lower ratio of women dedicated to competitive athletics, since they allocate fewer personal resources and time to be constant in sports and competitions outside their localities. It is even more complicated for young women from communities who are not integrated into a sports club.” Diana García, Director of Public Relations and Creativity at Oax Sport Inc.
