Why Participate?
Beyond its global symbolic value, this event connects with Oaxaca’s tradition of community spirit, health, and defense of the land. The 8.29 km route — linked to the 8/29 International Day against Nuclear Tests — invites us to turn each step into a message of peace with local impact and global resonance.
This run continues that tradition, transforming collective effort into a public commitment from Oaxaca: promoting youth leadership, physical activity, and civic participation. The visibility and resources generated will strengthen youth-led community projects in sports, public safety, and environmental protection, ensuring an impact that lasts beyond the event day.
Local coordination is led by Irving Eduardo Juárez Jiménez, Director of CUSPP and a forensic ballistics specialist with more than seven years of experience. As an official UN volunteer on disarmament and violence prevention, Irving has led events such as the Peace Walk in Cuilápam and GenerAcción Paz programs, connecting sports, education, and community safety. For this challenge, he is working with CUSPP, the Municipality of Cuilápam de Guerrero, and Oax Sport to ensure a safe, inclusive route aligned with the global campaign #Youth4Disarmament, #StepUp4Disarmament, #StepUp2StopNuclearTests, #ISteppedUp and their LinkedIn versions (#Youth4Disarmament, #StepUp4Disarmament, #StepUp2StopNuclearTests, #ISteppedUp).
The initiative raises awareness about the humanitarian and environmental consequences of nuclear testing and combines sports with activism in one call to action. With post-event reports and results shared with allies, we strengthen transparency and trust. Previous experiences from this international campaign show that events like this foster health, community bonds, and a sense of belonging.
Final Message
One run, one cause, one commitment — covering 8.29 km alongside communities worldwide as a symbol of global solidarity. Let’s move forward for life, not toward destruction. Run, walk, or jog… but don’t stop!
