In this exclusive interview, Diana shares her personal and professional journey, the challenges she has faced, her achievements, and her vision for Oax Sport’s future. How It All Started
Hi, Diana! Tell us, how did you get started in public relations and creativity, and what led you to join Oax Sport?
Creativity has always been part of my life, especially in the visual arts and writing. My entry into sports PR came through Oax Sport’s growth as an organization dedicated to supporting Oaxacan runners. Meeting these talented young athletes inspired me to build relationships and seek support for them.
Role and Responsibilities at Oax Sport
Can you explain your role as Corporate Director at Oax Sport? What part of your work do you find most rewarding?
My responsibilities are operational, covering graphic design (website, banners, sportswear), logistics for athlete participation, and direct communication with athletes joining Oax Sport events. The most gratifying aspect of my role is connecting athletes who need medical or psychological care with sponsors willing to provide it. Witnessing their improvement in both health and sports performance is highly rewarding.
Impact and Contributions to Oax Sport
How has your work in PR and creativity impacted Oax Sport? Is there a project or campaign you’re especially proud of?
I believe the athletes feel supported and valued, which strengthens their commitment to training and competing. This sense of support gives them the confidence to pursue their athletic goals, knowing the community cares about their success.
Collaboration and Teamwork
Tell us about teamwork and collaboration at Oax Sport. What’s it like to work with other team members and athletes?
I think more cohesion is needed between management and between management and athletes, especially in terms of coaching.
Promoting Athletes and Sporting Events
How do you approach promoting and supporting Oax Sport athletes in the media and the community? Is there a specific strategy you use?
I handle promotion with professionalism. Our social media efforts have helped us find like-minded people who contribute to our cause. Locally, having the necessary legal credentials for our mission reflects our commitment and brings tangible benefits to the athletes.
Challenges and Overcoming Them
Have you faced any challenges in your role? How did you overcome them, and what did you learn?
On a personal level, I’m not very active on social media, so connecting with athletes and others involved in sports support has been a learning experience in digital communication.
Community Connection in Oaxaca
How do you see Oax Sport’s connection with the local community and its social impact?
Our work with serious athletes who are not affiliated with other clubs has been very successful. However, I wish more people would join us without feeling that working with Oax Sport means leaving their teams. We always aim to work together and respect each athlete’s individual path.
Inspiration and Creativity
Where do you draw your inspiration for creative work? Has anyone or anything influenced your career?
My creative work comes from my education and experience. I have a degree in architecture and have taken many courses in art and design.
Goals and Future Projects
What are your future goals and plans with Oax Sport? Is there an exciting project or initiative coming up?
I hope to continue and achieve the participation of an Oax Sport athlete in an international competition.
Work-Life Balance
How do you balance your work at Oax Sport with your personal life? Is there a hobby or special interest you’d like to share with us?
Working in local sports keeps me active, encouraging me to walk and cycle, and explore rural routes. These hobbies complement my work at Oax Sport. Additionally, my work as a freelance professional allows me the flexibility to participate regularly in Oax Sport activities.
Advice for Aspiring PR Professionals
What advice would you give to those interested in a career in public relations and creativity?
I recommend maintaining a professional approach to all relationships. This fosters clarity and stability in partnerships and collaborations.
Thanks and Final Thoughts
Is there anything you would like to thank or say to your colleagues, athletes, or Oax Sport followers?
I appreciate the work of our volunteer staff who have expanded our website’s content and reach, as well as the continuous support and communication from Fahad Hizam, our director and promoter. And, most importantly, I am grateful to the athletes whose commitment to a better lifestyle has brought them to Oax Sport to spread their message.
