2. First Edition of the Puerto Vallarta By UTMB 2022
It pays to support new talent
In Mexico, specifically in the state of Jalisco, last October, from 27 to 30, the first edition of Puerto Vallarta by UTMB took place, part of the new UTMB World Series. The event attracted various high-level athletes from around the world, examples of which, were competitors from China, Canada, England, the United States, Panama, Costa Rica, France, Spain and England.
The Puerto Vallarta by UTMB is a unique event recently launched by the Ultra Trail Mont Blanc. The goal is to allow ultra trail athletes from all over the world to have the opportunity to qualify for the main race, the Ultra Trail Mont Blanc final that will take place from August 28 to September 3, 2023 in France.
Juana Cruz García, a young woman from the San Juan Quiahije community, Juquila, in the Coastal region of the state of Oaxaca, was one of the participants and obtained her entry into the UTMB Mexico by previously winning in April 2022 the ‘Ultra Trail Desierto de Leones‘. OSM Deportes, organizer of the events, awarded Juana with the registration to the event in Puerto Vallarta.
Oax Sport launched a fundraising campaign to help finance her trip and participation in Jalisco. Her trip was fully covered by Oax Sport donors, including the North Americans Echo from Maryland and Verónica from Chicago, and the Ángelus Medical Clinic from Oaxaca.
Oax Sport saw the need to support Juana in this international competition to give the young athlete a new learning experience in this sport.
“It was a privilege to participate in the first edition of a race as important as the Ultra Trail Puerto Vallarta by UTMB, I feel very grateful to Oax Sport, to the Ángelus Medical Clinic, to OSM Deportes and to all those who made my participation in this event possible. this event that brought together hundreds of runners from various countries.
The trip was excellent, I felt very good during my stay in Puerto Vallarta, I really enjoyed it. I am very grateful to the directors of Oax Sport for having accompanied me to the event. They supported me a lot, they were always aware of every detail.”
Taking advantage of the enthusiasm, we asked Diana García, Corporate Director, Public Relations and Creativity of Oax Sport, her opinion on the matter:
“Our experience in Puerto Vallarta with Juana was very encouraging. Having been part of the first edition of this great event encourages us to continue our work and encourage other runners to persevere in their discipline and sports development.
Visiting that friendly tourist destination and getting to know such a diversity of participating public, was to drink with new energy, for recognizing us as part of a positive activity and social impact such as the race.
Juana obtained an excellent position in her competition among hundreds of high-level participants. We feel grateful and rewarded with her organization, attitude and effort”.
