It Pays to Support New Talent

In Mexico, specifically in the state of Jalisco, last October, from 27 to 30, the first edition of Puerto Vallarta by UTMB took place, part of the new UTMB World Series. The event attracted various high-level athletes from around the world, including competitors from China, Canada, England, the United States, Panama, Costa Rica, France, Spain, and England.

The Puerto Vallarta by UTMB is a unique event recently launched by the Ultra Trail Mont Blanc. The goal is to allow ultra trail athletes from all over the world to qualify for the main race, the Ultra Trail Mont Blanc final, which will take place from August 28 to September 3, 2023, in France.

Juana Cruz García, a young woman from the San Juan Quiahije community, Juquila, in the Coastal region of the state of Oaxaca, was one of the participants and obtained her entry into UTMB Mexico by previously winning in April 2022 the ‘Ultra Trail Desierto de Leones‘. OSM Deportes, organizer of the events, awarded Juana with the registration to the event in Puerto Vallarta.

Oax Sport launched a fundraising campaign to help finance her trip and participation in Jalisco. Her trip was fully covered by Oax Sport donors, including the North Americans Echo from Maryland and Verónica from Chicago, and the Ángelus Medical Clinic from Oaxaca.

Oax Sport saw the need to support Juana in this international competition to give the young athlete a new learning experience in this sport.
