From San Juan Quiahije, Oaxaca, Juana is a Chatino-speaking trail runner who teaches music, assists in masonry, and advocates for environmental protection—all while competing in national-level trail races.

Athletic Achievements

  • 🥇 1st Place – Ultra Trail Desierto de los Leones CDMX (50 km), 2022
  • 🎽 Qualified – Ultra Trail Puerto Vallarta México by UTMB, 2022

Goals

Short-Term:

  • Podium finishes in 5K and 10K races
  • Complete a half marathon under 1:40
  • Finish the Mexico City Marathon

Long-Term:

  • Qualify for the Boston Marathon
  • Organize races in her community
  • Compete in duathlons and triathlons

In Her Words

“Running has transformed my life emotionally and physically. It gives me freedom and happiness that no other activity has provided. Traveling to Puerto Vallarta for the Ultra Trail was unforgettable—it was my first time flying and exploring a new city. I look forward to continuing my journey and inspiring others.”

Hobbies

Juana enjoys playing instruments, carpentry, walking, and listening to music. Her commitment to sustainability influences her daily choices and inspires her to protect the environment in her hometown.
